What Is a Divorce Certificate or Divorce Decree?

A Divorce Certificate is generally issued by a state's vital records office and confirms basic information about a finalized divorce, such as the date and place of the divorce.

A Divorce Decree is issued by a court and contains the final judgment and terms of the divorce.

Depending on the requirements of the destination country, either document or both may be needed for:

2. Secretary of State Authentication

3. U.S. Department of State Authentication
   The authenticated document is submitted to the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. Standard processing is approximately 9 business days.

4. Embassy Legalization
   The document is then submitted to the embassy of the destination Arab country for final legalization.
