Single Status Certificate – Embassy Legalization for Arab Countries

The Arab American Chamber of Commerce (AACC)®, headquartered in Washington D.C., provides expert-level legalization and embassy authentication services for Single Status Certificates (also known as Affidavits of Single Status or No Marriage Certificates). These documents are often required for marriage abroad or legal procedures involving personal status in Arab countries.

Our experienced team streamlines the multi-step legalization process, ensuring your affidavit is accepted by foreign authorities without delay.

What Is a Single Status Certificate?

A Single Status Certificate is an official notarized affidavit that confirms an individual is currently not married and free to marry. It is often required when:

  • Marrying a foreign national

  • Getting married abroad (e.g., in UAE, Jordan, or Egypt)

  • Applying for spousal visas

  • Completing residency paperwork based on family status

Since the U.S. government does not issue national single status certificates, individuals must draft and notarize a personal affidavit, often referred to as:

  • Affidavit of Single Status

  • Certificate of No Marriage

  • Sworn Statement of Non-Marriage

Do You Need to Legalize It?

Yes. If you're using a Single Status Affidavit in an Arab country, it must be:

  1. Notarized by a licensed notary public

  2. Certified by the Secretary of State in the same state

  3. Authenticated by the U.S. Department of State

  4. Legalized by the embassy of the destination country in Washington D.C.

💡 Uncertified or improperly legalized documents will likely be rejected by Arab authorities.
